Dear Íæż½ã½ã-Brightwaters Community,

On August 21, 2024, the Board of Education approved settlement agreements in five uninsured claims brought against the Íæż½ã½ã School Íæż½ã½ã under the Child Victims Act. Under the terms of these settlements, all parties are bound by confidentiality clauses, which prevent the Íæż½ã½ã from providing detailed information about the cases and settlements. Additionally, due to pending and ongoing litigation regarding the remaining Child Victims Act cases, we are unable to provide any further comment.

The Board of Education will vote regarding the issuance of a judgment bond relating to the aforementioned five settlements on October 1, 2024. A judgment bond will not require a public referendum because the sale and issuance is undertaken to effectuate the terms of said settlements. We have rescheduled the Board of Education meeting previously scheduled for October 9, 2024 to comply with the legal requirements related to the sale of municipal bonds and/or bond anticipation notes.

The Board of Education is committed to fulfilling the Íæż½ã½ã’s legal obligations in a manner that preserves our students’ academic and extracurricular opportunities, while minimizing the financial burden on our residents. The Íæż½ã½ã also remains dedicated to ensuring the well-being of our former, current, and future students, and continuing to foster unity for a promising future together. As always, thank you for your support of our students and Íæż½ã½ã Schools.

Sincerely,
